The Aviation Suite in the Tomorrow.io Platform offers a collection of layers, alerts, and tools designed specifically for aviation weather monitoring and operational safety.

By activating the plane icon on your map, you’ll unlock a range of aviation-specific layers and data tools. These features support dispatchers, pilots, ground operations, and meteorological teams in optimizing safety and efficiency.

Feature Summary

Feature Description
Airports Displays global airport locations. Click on an airport icon to view METAR and TAF weather reports.
Flight Schedule (Custom) Airline-specific schedule display for partner integrations. Contact your Acount Team to enable.
Flight Routes – North Atlantic Daily updated routes between Europe and North America.
Flight Routes – U.S. & Western Atlantic Daily updated routes across the U.S. and Western Atlantic region.
Waypoints Shows standard waypoints used in flight planning.
NAV Aids Displays navigation aids like VORs and NDBs used in en-route navigation.
FIR Boundaries Displays U.S. Flight Information Regions (FIRs). Additional regions may be added later.
AIRMETs (U.S. Only) Shows AIRMETs for hazards such as turbulence and icing. Use the altitude slider to explore vertical levels.
G-AIRMETs Graphical version of AIRMETs.
SIGMETs Displays significant weather advisories like severe turbulence or volcanic ash. Altitude filtering available.
Custom SIGMETs Internal operational alerts configured for your organization. Contact Support to enable.
Volcanic Ash Real-time volcanic ash alerts from VAACs, including projected dispersion.
PIREPs Displays pilot-submitted reports of observed conditions.
Winds Visual wind barbs for analyzing speed and direction across altitudes.

METAR/TAF Access and Usage

Tomorrow.io provides METAR and TAF data in several locations:

  • Click on any airport icon to view the latest METAR and TAF reports directly in the map.

  • Use METAR/TAF as a parameter in Trends to track changes at your key airports.

  • Create Insights based on METAR or TAF to trigger alerts based on observed or forecast airport conditions.

💡 We recommend combining Tomorrow.io forecast data with METAR/TAF conditions in the same Insight. This ensures alerts are triggered by the most sensitive available source and include a message detailing which source initiated the Insight.

  • Altitude filtering is available via the left-side scroller.
