The World Area Forecast System (WAFS) is available directly in the Tomorrow.io platform. This dataset provides global, high-altitude weather conditions that support critical decision-making in aviation.

🔒 This is a premium feature available as part of the Tomorrow.io Aviation Suite. To request access, please contact your Tomorrow.io Account Team or sales@tomorrow.io.

Accessing WAFS in the Platform

WAFS data is available from 3,000 ft to 55,000 ft using the altitude slider in the map view.

⚠️ WAFS data is view-only in the platform and does not currently support alerts or insights.

Included Parameters

Wind (Speed & Direction)

Visualizes wind vectors at altitude. Useful for route optimization, fuel planning, and turbulence avoidance.

Turbulence (EDR)

Shows forecast turbulence using the Eddy Dissipation Rate (EDR) index, the aviation industry standard for measuring turbulence intensity.

  • Also available in the SIGMETs layer, where users can view and configure alerts for active turbulence-related SIGMETs

  • Enables proactive monitoring for hazardous airspace
