Alerts are a core feature of the Tomorrow.io platform, designed to notify stakeholders when weather conditions require timely action.
When conditions defined in an insight rule are forecasted near a saved location, alerts are triggered and delivered to designated users or groups across multiple channels.
Permissions
- Alerts are managed by Admins (create, assign, and tag)
- Users must enable browser and OS-level permissions to receive notifications
Notification Channels
Each user can customize their preferred delivery channels via:
Profile Icon (Top Right) → User Settings → Notifications Tab
Supported channels include:
| Channel | Description |
|---|---|
| In-App Notifications | Real-time alerts within the Tomorrow.io platform |
| Browser Notifications | Pop-up alerts via browser, even outside the Tomorrow.io tab |
| Email Notifications | Alerts sent directly to the user's email address |
| Mobile Notifications | Push alerts via the Tomorrow.io mobile app |
| SMS | Text messages sent to a verified mobile number |
| Premium feature; alerts via WhatsApp to a verified number |
Note: Users may select either SMS or WhatsApp—not both.
Notification Preferences
Users can customize both delivery channels and alert types (e.g., weather alerts, reports, lightning), allowing for more tailored notifications.
