All saved and monitored locations in the platform are accessible via the Locations tab. From here, users can view all configured locations and apply filters based on tags, such as region, size, department, or type to organize data more effectively.

⚠️ Note: Only admin users can add or modify saved locations.

Location Types

The platform supports three types of locations:

  • Point LocationA specific set of latitude and longitude coordinates. Ideal for monitoring a single site or asset

  • PolygonA custom-shaped area (up to 500 square kilometers / 193 square miles) used to monitor zones like facilities, fields, neighbourhoods or campuses

  • PolylineA connected line across multiple points, useful for tracking routes such as roads, raileays, pipelines, or runways (Maximum supported length: 72 kilometers / approximately 45 miles).

🔒 For accounts licensed with Large Areas Monitoring, polygons and polylines can exceed the standard limitations supporting monitoring at the scales of counties, zip codes, or regions. See Large Areas Monitoring for details.

Note: When an Insight is triggered, you can investigate the affected area using the Impact Map feature. Learn more.

Location Clusters

When viewing many locations at once, the platform automatically groups nearby locations into clusters to improve map performance and usability.

  • The number shown in a cluster represents the total number of monitors in that area.

  • Click on a cluster or zoom in to reveal individual locations.

  • To turn off clustering, uncheck the Cluster” layer in the map’s Layers panel.

Adding Locations

There are several ways to add locations, depending on your preference and platform permissions:

  • From the Map

Use the map interface to draw a Point, Polygon, or Polyline, then click "Save" to store it with a custom name and optional tags.

    • For Point Locations, simply drop a marker anywhere on the map and click "Save".

  • From the Locations Tab
Admins can use the Add Location” button in the Locations tab to create new entries manually.

  • Bulk Upload
If you need to add a large number of locations (e.g., agricultural plots, facility zones), our team can help by uploading them on your behalf using a backend script.

Location Subscriptions

Location Subscriptions allow you to link locations to user groups, so alerts are automatically sent to the right recipients based on location.

This helps reduce duplicate alerts and simplifies alert management, especially at scale.

How it works

  • Assign locations to groups in Organization Settings → Groups
  • Groups automatically receive alerts for their subscribed locations
  • Supports assignment by tag or specific locations

Using in Alerts

When creating an alert, enable Send to Subscribed Groups to notify all groups linked to the selected locations.

Notes

Only admins can assign locations to groups.

Standard users can opt in or out of groups they belong to.

You can still add additional recipients manually when configuring an alert.

Tips for Viewing

  • Ensure all location types (Point, Polygon, Polyline) are enabled in the Layers panel to display them on the map.

  • Use tags to filter and organize locations more effectively — by region, department, asset type, etc.

Measuring Distance Between Locations

To support better situational awareness and planning, the platform includes a built-in measuring tool that allows users to calculate distances directly on the map.

Use this tool to determine how far an active weather event is from your monitored assets or evaluate the span between critical locations in your network.

How to use the Measuring Tool:

  1. Click the ruler icon in the map toolbar.

  2. Click on a starting point anywhere on the map.

  3. Draw a line to your area(s) of interest — for example, a saved location, polygon, or custom point.

  4. The platform will automatically calculate and display the distance in your selected unit (e.g., kilometers or miles).

  5. Press Enter to complete the measurement.

Tip: The measuring tool can be used even without selecting or modifying locations — it works independently from saved monitor areas.
