Alerts are a critical feature within Tomorrow.io's platform, designed to notify relevant stakeholders in your organization of severe weather insights that require immediate action. When predetermined conditions (insights) approach a saved location, an alert is sent out to the appropriate groups.
Important Notes:
- Alerts can be tagged and managed by admin users only.
- Users must grant permission for Tomorrow.io to send notifications both in their browser settings (an option to approve will pop up when enabling this feature) and in their OS system preferences for the browser to send notifications.
Notification Channels
Each user can choose their own notification preferences by navigating to: Initials in the upper right → User Settings → Notification Tab.
Tomorrow.io currently offers the following notification channels:
- In-App Notifications: Notifications within the platform: Users will see notification toasts inside the platform as new alerts are triggered.
- Browser Notifications: Notifications sent via the web browser, allowing alerts to appear even when you are not actively using the Tomorrow.io tab.
- Email Notifications: Alerts sent via email.
- Mobile Notifications: Through the Tomorrow.io Mobile App.
- SMS Notifications: Requires a valid phone number in the Profile tab in User Settings.
- Whatsapp Notifications: A premium feature available if purchased by admins, requiring a valid phone number in the Profile tab in User Settings.
Note: Users can choose either SMS or WhatsApp, not both.
Customizing Notification Preferences
Users can manage how they receive notifications, not just by channel (email, WhatsApp, SMS), but also by the specific type of notification (alerts, reports, etc.). This feature provides more granular control, ensuring users receive information through channels tailored to their needs and preferences:
Manage your organization's schedule to specify when users get notifications: This feature allows organizations to schedule when users receive alerts, helping them better manage notifications and ensuring they are sent during relevant hours. It currently supports one schedule per account.
Accessing Alerts
Alert Log: The Tomorrow.io platform saves all alerts sent out up to 30 days back in an alert log. It can be accessed by clicking on the alert icon in the main navigation bar. The alert log shows which weather alert was sent, to whom, and when. Users can acknowledge receipt of alerts and add comments, which are secured in the alert log:
Configured Alerts: All configured alerts are stored in the alerts tab. Admin users can create new alerts, modify existing ones, or assign new users and groups to existing alerts.
Timing of Weather Alerts
The timing for each weather alert can be customized based on your company’s protocol. Alerts can be configured to notify users:
- Prior to the event start time
- At the event start time
- After the event has cleared
Alerts can be set up to notify users in advance at intervals of: 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, 6 hours, 12 hours, 1.5 days, and 2 days.
Integration with 3rd Party Communication Tools
Tomorrow.io alerts can be configured to your company’s distribution lists.
