Tomorrow.io provides multiple types of weather alerts to help users monitor, respond to, and plan around hazardous weather conditions.


Insight-Based Alerts

🌐 Available to all users
Insight-based alerts are triggered when weather conditions meet custom thresholds that you define (e.g., temperature drops, wind speeds, snowfall, etc.).

  • Fully customizable by parameter, threshold, location, and time

  • Ideal for daily operations and proactive planning

  • Can be applied to individual or grouped locations

Severe Weather Event Alerts (SWE)

Severe Weather Event (SWE) alerts provide notifications based on official government-issued weather warnings, helping users monitor and respond to hazardous conditions.

  • Based on authoritative sources such as national meteorological agencies (e.g., NWS, Environment Canada, EUMETNET)
  • Covers a wide range of weather hazards, including storms, floods, extreme temperatures, and more
  • Fully integrated with the Tomorrow.io platform and map layers
  • Alerts can be configured based on location, event type, and severity
  • Delivered via email, mobile app, SMS, or WhatsApp

Real-Time Lightning Alerts

Lightning alerts notify users when cloud-to-cloud or cloud-to-ground lightning is detected within a selected radius.

  • Based on real-time lightning detection

  • Includes an on-map countdown timer that resets with each new strike

  • Supports safety protocols for outdoor operations and events

  • Delivered via email, mobile app, SMS, or WhatsApp

Tropical Cyclone Alerts

Tropical cyclone alerts provide real-time updates on global storm activity.

  • Covers all ocean basins using official data from NHC and JTWC

  • Includes storm name, location, forecast movement, and wind strength

  • Each alert includes a link to open the cyclone layer centered on the storm

  • Delivered via email, mobile app, SMS, or WhatsApp

AIRMETs, SIGMETs, and Volcanic Ash Alerts

These alerts deliver official meteorological advisories for flight operations:

  • SIGMETs: Severe hazards (e.g., turbulence, icing, convection)

  • AIRMETs: Moderate aviation weather risks (e.g., icing, mountain obscuration)

  • Volcanic Ash: Advisories from VAACs (Washington, London, Toulouse)

  • Includes severity, altitude, validity period, and FIRs affected

  • Direct platform links open the alert on the map

Earthquake Alerts

🌐 Available to all users
Earthquake alerts notify you when seismic events occur near your monitored locations, helping you respond quickly to potential risks to people, assets, and operations.

  • Based on near-real-time data from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)

  • Supports emergency response, safety workflows, and situational awareness

  • Alerts are triggered based on proximity to your locations and earthquake severity

Includes two data feeds:

  • M4.5+ Earthquakes: All global earthquakes with magnitude 4.5 or greater

  • Significant Earthquakes: Events classified as significant based on impact, depth, location, and reported damage

Note: All significant earthquakes are also included in the M4.5+ feed.

Alerts are delivered via email, mobile app, SMS, or WhatsApp.
