Receiving Earthquake Alerts in Tomorrow.io

Tomorrow.io supports earthquake alerts to help customers detect seismic events and take immediate action to protect people, assets, and operations. These alerts provide near-real-time notifications of significant earthquakes near your locations, enabling proactive risk mitigation.

When to Use Earthquake Alerts

Use earthquake alerts if your operations, personnel, or infrastructure are located in seismically active regions. These alerts can support:

  • Emergency preparedness and response
  • Automated safety workflows
  • Situational awareness for critical operations

How Earthquake Alerts Work

Earthquake data is sourced from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), which provides reliable and timely seismic event reports. When enabled, earthquake alerts notify you when a seismic event occurs near a configured location.

Tomorrow.io offers two types of earthquake data feeds:

  • M4.5+ Feed: Reports all recorded earthquakes worldwide with a magnitude of 4.5 or greater.
  • Significant Feed: Reports significant earthquakes based on a combination of factors including magnitude, depth, location, impact, and reported damage.

Note: All significant earthquakes are also included in the M4.5+ feed.

Alert Trigger Criteria

You can configure alerts to trigger based on proximity to a monitored location:

  • M4.5+ Earthquakes: Trigger alerts if the event occurs within 55 km of the location.
  • Significant Earthquakes: Trigger alerts if the event occurs within 100 km of the location.

How to Enable Earthquake Alerts

To include earthquake alerts in your alert configuration:

  1. Navigate to the Alerts section of the platform.
  2. Select an existing alert or create a new one.
  3. In the Conditions panel, choose Hazards.
  4. Check the box for Earthquakes.
  5. Select either the M4.5+ or Significant feed, depending on your operational needs.
  6. Save the alert configuration.

Pricing

Earthquake alerts are available under regular monitoring pricing.
