SIGMETs and Volcanic Ash Alerts are critical for aviation operations, providing early warnings for regional weather hazards that may impact flight safety. These alerts are available only to aviation customers with the Aviation feature enabled on their Tomorrow.io account.
Alert Types
SIGMETs (Significant Meteorological Information)
Issued for severe conditions affecting aircraft safety:
-
Hazard Types: Convective thunderstorms, turbulence, icing, volcanic ash, IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) conditions, and mountain obscuration
-
Coverage: Global, by FIR (Flight Information Region). Note: the entire CONUS (Contiguous United States) is grouped as a single region for alerting purposes.
-

Volcanic Ash Advisories
Provided by global Volcanic Ash Advisory Centers (VAACs):
-
Regions Covered: Washington, London, and Toulouse VAACs (more planned for 2025)
-
