Tomorrow.io employs global and regional hydrological models to analyze river networks hourly and provide widespread coverage. Our approach utilizes proprietary models for region-specific analysis and integrates statistical methods with historical data to establish flood thresholds. These scalable, cloud-based methods are validated against real-world observations and continuously refined with new data to enhance accuracy and reliability.

Our Flood Index offers precise, localized flood forecasting with a clear depiction of stream networks. This feature eliminates displacement errors, provides lead time for widespread flood events, and accurately captures dynamic or rapidly evolving flood conditions.

Key Parameters

Parameter Description
Flood Index A global combined fluvial, pluvial, and streamflow flood index based on return period intervals of 10, 50, 100, 500, and 5,000 years. It's important to note that the flood index focuses on terrestrial flooding (fluvial and pluvial) and does not account for coastal or storm surge related flooding at coastal areas or around inland bays, estuaries, and large tidal bodies of water.
Stream Flow Provides observed and forecasted streamflow data. While hourly stream flow data is available for the CONUS region, all hourly measurements outside of CONUS represent daily values.

Flood Data Product Layers

  • Global Flood Index - Delivers a daily forecast at a 5km resolution (upgraded from 9km), available up to 14 days in advance.
  • Global Streamflow - Delivers a daily forecast at a 9km resolution, available up to 5 days in advance
