Tomorrow.io’s platform provides comprehensive air quality monitoring by utilizing a variety of parameters. These parameters are essential for understanding the current air quality and its impact on health and the environment. Users can view these parameters on the timeline view and trends page, and utilize them to generate insights.

Parameter

Description

AQI (EPA)

Reflects the air quality concern level based on the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards. This index assesses the health implications of breathing air over varying periods.

AQI (China)

Measures the air quality concern level according to the China Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) standards. It provides insights into the air quality specific to regions in China.

Particular Matter 2.5

Indicates the concentration of particulate matter in the air that has a diameter of fewer than 2.5 micrometers. These fine particles are particularly concerning for health as they can penetrate deep into the lungs and enter the bloodstream.

Particular Matter PM10

Represents the concentration of particulate matter with a diameter of fewer than 10 micrometers. These particles are inhalable and can cause respiratory and cardiovascular issues.

Additional Forecasted Parameters

Tomorrow.io also forecasts levels of key pollutants which impact air quality:

  • Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2): Often produced from vehicle emissions and industrial activity.
  • Ozone (O3): Formed when sunlight reacts with pollutants such as nitrogen oxides.
  • Sulfur Dioxide (SO2): Comes from fossil fuel combustion at power plants and other industrial facilities.
  • Carbon Monoxide (CO): A colorless, odorless gas that is harmful when inhaled, primarily emitted from vehicles and machinery.
