Tomorrow.io’s platform provides access to high-resolution maritime weather parameters essential for navigational safety and marine operational planning. These parameters help users monitor ocean conditions in real time and forecast future patterns.

Key Maritime Parameters

The following parameters are available via both the platform and API:

Swell

Parameter Description
Primary Swell Direction Direction from which the primary swell originates
Secondary Swell Direction Direction for secondary swell
Tertiary Swell Direction Direction for tertiary swell
Primary Swell Height Height of the primary swell
Secondary Swell Height Height of the secondary swell
Tertiary Swell Height Height of the tertiary swell
Primary Swell Period Time between successive primary swells
Secondary Swell Period Time between successive secondary swells
Tertiary Swell Period Time between successive tertiary swells
 

General Wave Conditions

Parameter Description
Wave Direction Direction of overall wave movement
Wave Height Height of the total wave field
Wave Period Time interval between wave crests
 

Wind-Driven Waves

Parameter Description
Wind Wave Direction Direction of waves generated by wind
Wind Wave Height Height of wind-generated waves
Wind Wave Period Time between wind-driven wave crests

Viewing Maritime Data on the Platform

To explore maritime conditions in the Tomorrow.io platform:

  1. Navigate to the Trends tab
  2. Open the Marine or related parameter dropdown
  3. Select a parameter to view historical and forecasted data over your selected area

Accessing Maritime Data via API

Maritime parameters are also available through the Tomorrow.io Weather API.

  • Supported fields include: primarySwellDirection, waveHeight, windWavePeriod, and more
  • Visit the API documentation for endpoints, sample queries, and full field definitions
