Tomorrow.io’s platform provides comprehensive tools for monitoring fire-related activities through two main features: the Fire Index and the Active Fires Layer. These tools are crucial for disaster response, environmental monitoring, and safety planning.
Active Fires Layer
This layer provides real-time locations of fires and potential hotspots, helping users to identify and respond to fire outbreaks promptly.
On the platform’s map view, the active fires layer visually represents ongoing fires with flame icons. These icons are categorized by their certainty:
- Observed: Confirmed active fires.
- Likely: Geo-located points where there is potential fire activity based on satellite analysis but not confirmed as active fires.
Fire Index
Fosberg Fire Weather Index (FWI): This index quantifies the potential intensity of fire behavior based on current and forecasted weather conditions. It ranges from 0 to 100, indicating increasing fire behavior severity.
Availability
- Realtime Global: Updated hourly.
- Forecast US: Hourly updates with up to 17 forecast hours.
- Forecast Global: Updated every 6 hours.
Accessing Fire Index on the Platform
